Painting from the Ground Up – A New Lesson Series

I'm really excited to introduce something a little different with my new lesson series, Painting from the Ground Up.

We're going to start with a small, simple section of a larger scene and gradually build on it over a series of lessons. The idea is to take you on a journey, starting with the basics and giving you the confidence and skills to tackle something more challenging as we progress.

In this first lesson, we won't be worrying about fine details or complicated brush techniques. Instead, we'll concentrate on mixing colours, applying paint and, most importantly, learning to really observe what we're painting.

If you're completely new to painting, don't worry about getting everything perfect. The most important thing is to enjoy the process, build your confidence and have a go!

One thing I've always believed is that you don't need hundreds of tiny details to create a realistic painting. You can achieve a surprising amount of realism simply by getting the colours, shapes and overall composition right. That's exactly what I want to demonstrate in this lesson.

Part 2 will be released next week, where we'll return to the same scene but start again with a blank canvas. Each lesson will introduce more detail, subtle colour variations and new techniques, allowing you to gradually develop your skills and really see the progression from a simple painting to something much more realistic and detailed.

I hope you'll enjoy following along and discovering just how much you can achieve by starting with the basics.
